Themes and drafts

This is a collection of themes and drafts and unfinished songs written and captured over the entire course of the recording project 'The World Is Mine'.

About

Written in Germany, Russia and Indonesia, recorded in February 2017 in Laos

In February 2017 I decided to publish this collection of themes and drafts that I had written and recorded here and there along the way. The main reason shaping this decision was that after publishing the song "Float" in November 2016, I hadn't really been able to compile another full-grown song out of the fragments I had lying around. I was experiencing what you might call a crisis of faith: for two-and-a-half months I hadn't been able to write new material. No music. No lyrics. Nothing. So I decided to sort through and publish some of these fragments instead.

I had captured most of these snippets on my phone, making quick and dirty recordings so I didn't forget the ideas. I went through all of those little fragments and picked a few that I worked out in greater detail and properly re-recorded using my Apogee One. Then I started this website publishing the first four of these ideas. As time progresses I will keep adding themes and drafts to this collection, first of all for my band to use while I am still traveling, and secondly for other musicians to download and use in their non-commercial projects. In return I only ask that you mention my band and link back to this project.

THEMES AND DRAFTS

An ongoing collection

Giant (working title)

Written in Ubud, Indonesia, September 2016 / I remembered a theme that I had written a couple of years ago and added a second part (bridge) and a potential chorus.

Hand pan theme

Written in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, July 2016 / When couchsurfing at Alexandr's place I found a hand pan, a rather cheap children's toy that I sampled and created this melody with.

Piano theme

Written in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, July 2016 / When couchsurfing at Alexandr's place I sat down at his electric piano and eventually came up with this melody.

Andy's theme(s)

Written in Paderborn, Germany, May 2016 / Shortly before our departureto Iran I jammed with my brother Andy. We came up with a guitar loop that would be recorded in an 8/8 measure and then shortened to 7/8 and 6/8 depending on the guitar theme going with it.
